The long-awaited moment for road cycling fans has arrived.
After the crash that resulted in multiple fractures to his ribs and collarbone in December 2024, Belgium’s double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel is set to return at the Brabantse Pijl race on home soil this Friday, 18 April.
After racing Brabantse Pijl, the 25-year-old is on the entry list in all three major Ardennes Classics – Amstel Gold, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege – a race he has previously won on two occasions.
Evenepoel, who has completed an altitude training camp in Spain’s Sierra Nevada with his Soudal Quick-Step teammates, competed in the Belgian one-day race once in 2022, finishing in the top ten.
“I’m counting the days until I can race with the guys again for the first time in more than six months. It has been a long time since my last outing with the team, but I am happy to be so close to my return. I have worked hard all these months. I had a solid training camp in Spain, and I feel good and motivated for Brabant. I don’t have any specific goals because the most important thing will be to find my race rhythm again after all this time,” Remco said.
