FEDERAL WAY, Wa. – The No. 3 California men’s swimming & diving team holds steady at second in the standings after seven swimmers earned All-American honors on the second day of the NCAA Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center.
Destin Lasco was the Golden Bears top finisher of the evening after taking second place in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:37.98, only .07 seconds behind the first-place finisher and his American record set a year ago in the 2024 NCAA Championships. Mewen Tomac earned second-team honors after swimming the fifth-fastest time in program history, finishing 13th in the event with a time of 1:41.19.
In the first event of the championship session, Lucas Henveaux earned first-team All-American honors after breaking his school record for the second time of the day after clocking a 4:06.74, lowering his previous time by 1.24 seconds, in the 500-yard freestyle to finish third in the event. Tyler Kopp earned second-team All-American after placing 16th in the time of 4:12.87.
Jack Alexy received first-team All-American recognition after matching his season-best time of 18.48 to finish tied for fifth in the 50-yard freestyle. Bjorn Seeliger was tabbed second-team All-American with an 11th-place finish in the event with a time of 18.82.
Cal’s relay team of Alexy, Seeliger, Matthew Jensen and Lasco ended the night with a fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:14.12, the second-fastest time in program history.
Through seven events, Texas leads the standings with 190 points. Cal is second with 159.5 points, while Indiana (146), Tennessee (114) and Arizona State (111) round out the top five.
The NCAA Championships continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT with the prelim sessions 100-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and the three-meter dive.
