Damascus, Dec 31 (UNI) UN humanitarian operations remain suspended in areas of the Syrian regions of Aleppo, Tartus, Latakia and Deir ez-Zor due to security issues, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Monday.
“Due to the tense security situation, humanitarian operations remain suspended in areas of Aleppo, Tartous, Lattakia and Deir-ez-Zor governorates,” OCHA said in a statement.
In the past week, ongoing hostilities and insecurity in Syria, particularly in Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Lattakia, Tartous, Rural Damascus, Deir-ez-Zor and Quneitra regions, have led to civilian casualties, the statement said.
Syria’s armed opposition captured Damascus on December 8. Russian officials said that Syrian President Bashar Assad stepped down after negotiations with participants in the Syrian conflict and left Syria for Russia, where he was granted asylum. Mohammed al-Bashir, who ran an Idlib-based administration formed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other opposition groups, was named interim prime minister. He later announced that an interim government had been formed and would remain in place until March 2025.
