This much-awaited drama ‘Newtopia‘ is an upcoming zombie apocalypse and sets to premiere on February 7, 2025. Before the official premiere date, Coupang Play has released a series of character stills by its leading actor Park Jung Min to set the tone for gripping characterization as a soldier fighting on a world conquered by zombies.
‘Newtopia’, formerly known as ‘Influenza’, looks at the zombie apocalypse perspective. Actor Park Jung Min takes Jae Yoon who is a soldier, who is posted to work in an air-defense unit of a very high-rise building. Haunted by low self-esteem and anxious about the future prospect, a trapped Jae Yoon stays trapped inside this dreadful epidemic.
Different stages of Jae Yoon while chaos breaks free are in the stills. The few frames take him from talking to peers and trying to call his girlfriend Young Joo, with BLACKPINK’s Jisoo taking that role. His tension intensifies when it is disclosed that he unknowingly invades zombies who, shortly after, experience imagery involving desperation for survival as well as strategic moves plus meeting up with Young Joo.
Jisoo plays the role of Young Joo, a young woman newly out into the workforce and living alone. As if that were not enough of a challenge, she is blind-sided when Jae Yoon tells her that they should break up. Wanting to save their relationship, Young Joo decides to head over to his place in the air-defense building. In this case, however, zombies have taken over the area, and she must fight for survival as she searches to be reunited with Jae Yoon.
This would be Jisoo’s first acting comeback since ‘Snowdrop’. Fans are ready to see how she’d create chemistry with Park Jung Min and the emotional depth those characters have.
With its different storyline, strong action, and emotional undertones, ‘Newtopia’ promises to be a very exciting addition to the zombie drama genre. Park Jung Min’s nuanced performance as a soldier facing both personal and external battles, coupled with Jisoo’s compelling portrayal of Young Joo, has heightened expectations for the series. ‘Newtopia’ premieres on February 7, 2025.
