
The funeral for former President Jimmy Carter is set to take place Thursday morning in Washington D.C.
Carter’s remains will be taken to the Washington National Cathedral after lying in state at the Capitol this week. Following the service, his remains will be taken to Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia for a private funeral service and interment Thursday night.
President Joe Biden declared Thursday a national day of mourning after Carter died Dec. 29 at age 100 years old. The declaration causes all offices of the federal government to be closed.
All living former presidents plan to gather for the funeral. Both president-elect Donald Trump and former vice president, Mike Pence, as both are expected to be in attend marking the first time the pair will be in the same room in four years.
The National funeral service for the late president is slated to start at 10 a.m. ET Thursday.
