Following the death of Jimmy Carter, the 39th president, on Dec. 29, President Joe Biden declared a National Day of Mourning on Jan. 9.
For this observance, federal offices will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 9, however, businesses are not required to close, unlike federal holidays.
