Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has found it tough ever since Ruben Amorim took over.
There is pretty good reason for Alejandro Garnacho‘s reduced role under Ruben Amorim, it’s as simple as him struggling to find a fit in the coach’s system.
Garnacho is a winger, he’s not a central attacking midfielder or a striker, and he lacks the defensive discipline to perform as a wing-back.
This has meant that Garnacho has not started a game since United’s loss to Nottingham Forest in early December.

Testing time for Garnacho
This has been a testing time for Alejandro Garnacho, since the Forest game he has played in six of seven games, having been left out of the squad for the win over City along with Marcus Rashford.
Unlike Rashford, who has since been largely omitted, Garnacho has featured in all of the other games from the bench, but simply struggled to make his mark.
Against Liverpool he managed his breakthrough, helping United to claim a point at Anfield after providing an assist for Amad to score an equaliser.
Garnacho posted a message on Instagram following the draw, acknowledging that it has been difficult for the team lately, with four straight losses heading into this one, and hopes to have done his part in terms of turning it around.
He posted: “Good point at Anfield to start the year. 💪🏽🅰️ The last few weeks have not been easy, but it’s good to start the year like this and try to build from this.”
Garnacho’s best moment under Amorim
Alejandro Garnacho does have one goal under Ruben Amorim, scoring early in the 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt in late November.
But considering how his spell under the new head coach has gone awry since, it has ended up being a quite forgettable moment.
This assist at Anfield was Garnacho’s best moment under Amorim, it’s come amid some real adversity, amid his very difficult end to the year.
Garnacho has been linked with a surprise Manchester United exit following how he has fallen out of favour – but he’s still fighting, and can turn it around.
If he can perform and deliver for Manchester United at Anfield, then he can fit under Amorim, he has a part to play. He just needs to convince him.
This assist and result will give him confidence, it’s something to build on, for United and for Garnacho.
